The SALEM Drama Group is made up of volunteer actors from within the local community. Their role has been to provide community education on a variety of issues. Many of these have been health related such as Malaria prevention and treatment and HIV/Aids awareness.
Recently, the Drama Group has begun working in partnership with the Tree Planting Project and have been performing to sensitise the community about Climate Change and the need for environmental protection. Performances have been conducted in many villages in the surrounding area. They have received a great reception and have been able to convey the message to people of all ages. They have even been travelling up to the mountainous region of Bududa to perform in villages where deforestation has been a major factor contributing to a devastating mudslide earlier this year and numerous smaller ones over the last few months. Drama is a wonderful medium of communication and the creativity and energy of the SALEM actors is infectious.
