This exciting new project aimes at improving schoool attendance and academic performance at our two neighbouring primary schools of Kolonyi and Birah is now underway. Following meetings with teachers and parents, and with district officials, the head teachers have taken action to start growing food for the children. Many arrive at school hungry there is no breakfast, no lunch and consequently they do not concentrate on their studies. Salem Uganda has provided funds for ploughing, hoes and maize and bean seeds. The children, parents and teachers will provide undertake the sowing, weeding and harvesting.
Salem tailoring staff have visited the schools to measure children who need uniform and from the end of May uniforms will be supplied to those indentified by the school as being in need.
Education materials including exercise books, pens chalk and papers for instructional material wil also be provided.
