About Salem
Who are we?

Salem Uganda is a non-denominational Christian NGO providing a wide range of support to the people of Nakaloke sub county in Mbale and surrounding districts in Eastern Uganda.
History

Established in 1981 by the German founder of Salem, Gottfried Müller, Salem has a reputation for being a self sustaining working model of Ugandan life with a highly evolved sense of responsibility and compassion towards the local community.
Salem Guest house and Conference Centre is an important part of our income generating programme to support the poor and needy in our local communities.
Childcare

We work with orphaned, abandoned and abused children and babies in need of care and protection this includes both residential care and community social work activity. Priority is given to tracing relatives and resettling children back in their families.
Health Center

Salem also supports a health centre level 4 whose comprehensive range of services include: out patients, laboratory, in patient hospital wards for children and adults, reproductive health and maternity care, HIV/AIDS counselling and community health outreach services.
The Environment

Salem is committed to help the people of Nakaloke District in their effort to protect their environment with the following programmes:
- provision of tree seedlings and technical advice for farmers
- providing clean safe water through selfhelp schemes
- training community health workers in subjects as hygiene, recycling and others
- management of agroforestry to provide firewood and timber
- promoting fuel efficient stoves and cooking techniques
- promoting sustainable agriculture.
